Massage Therapy

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage describes any type of massage modality that helps to relieve acute or chronic pain, reduce stress, or treat a specific problem or injury. Our therapists use a variety of massage techniques such as deep tissue, Swedish, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release. Some of our therapists are also trained in additional advanced techniques to incorporate into your session. Before your massage, we will discuss your overall goals for the treatment and the areas of your body that need focus. We then create a customized massage experience catered to your specific needs and requests.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the specific needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. The gentle, noninvasive approach of pregnancy massage can ease the discomfort associated with pregnancy, help prepare for labor, and give nurturing emotional support. Pregnancy massage is recommended for women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Massage is done in a side-lying position using pillows and other props to make the mother-to-be as comfortable as possible.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle technique that encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, dissipate the negative effects of stress, and enhance health and resistance to disease.  The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a light touch usually no greater than 5 grams (about the weight of a nickel), restrictions and imbalances in the soft tissue are released to encourage the movement of fluid within the system.  CST has proven effective in treating a wide range of medical problems especially those associated with pain and dysfunction such as headaches, chronic neck and low back pain, and stress related disorders. You remain fully clothed during a treatment and it's best to wear loose comfortable clothing.

Emotional Processing via Bodywork

Using body work to assist those suffering from grief, loss, or trauma to heal in a holistic manner. This is an adjunct to verbal processing.

Shiatsu is a form of massage developed in Japan but, similar to acupuncture, is rooted in Chinese Medicine. The goal is to stimulate Qi energy and break up any blockages in it’s flow along the meridians of the body. Shiatsu utilizes a sequence of movements including rhythmic rocking, stretching, pressing, percussion, and deep breaths for an experience that can make you feel revitalized and balanced. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes are worn throughout the entire session and no oils or lotions are necessary. This modality is less focused on addressing specific regions and is more effective at bringing the whole system into alignment so that the body can heal itself more efficiently.
